Sending money overseas through CommBank can cost $30, or nothing at all. The difference comes down to one thing: does the payment actually convert currency.

You can send a CommBank International Money Transfer through NetBank, the CommBank app, or a branch. Branch transfers have a minimum of $5,000 per transfer.

Send a foreign currency online, genuinely converting AUD, and the transfer fee is waived. Send AUD to AUD with no conversion through NetBank or the app, and it's $30 — the same as a branch or manual instruction.

CBA's fee leaflet, dated 23 July 2026, lists three more charges: $25 to cancel and return funds, $25 to amend a payment instruction, and $25 to trace a transfer, including any follow-up.

There's also an Additional Overseas Banks Fee for sending the same currency you hold — say, a GBP account paying a GBP recipient. It's $33 for euros, $17 for pounds, $17 for New Zealand dollars, and $37 for US dollars. It's waived if the transfer genuinely converts currency.

CommBank doesn't publish a fixed exchange-rate margin. Its own terms say the rate is indicative only, and is set when your transaction is confirmed — not before.

For same-currency transfers, CBA publishes a guide to correspondent bank fees, dated on data from 2020 to 2021. To the United States it's around $6 US dollars, or $16 elsewhere. To the UK it's $6 pounds, or $7 elsewhere. To Hong Kong it's $65 Hong Kong dollars, or $255 elsewhere.

Receiving money into a CommBank account costs up to $11 per transfer, whether it lands in an AUD account or a Foreign Currency Account. You'll need CommBank's SWIFT code, CTBAAU2S.

CommBank sets your transfer limit at $0 by default, for security. You set your own IMT limit inside NetBank or the app before your first transfer — there's no single published figure for everyone.

Money sent overseas is usually available to the recipient within 1 business day of CommBank accepting the instruction — though overseas screening can add extra time on either end.

And if someone's asked you for a 'CommBank telegraphic transfer' — that term doesn't appear on CBA's consumer transfer pages at all. What you actually want is the International Money Transfer.
