Enrolled Nurse, ANZSCO 411411, is a different occupation from Registered Nurse. Different qualification, different scope of practice — and it doesn't reach every visa a Registered Nurse can use.

A Registered Nurse trains through a Bachelor of Nursing, 3 years. An Enrolled Nurse trains through a Diploma of Nursing, 18 months, then practises under RN supervision.

Enrolled Nurse sits on the STSOL and the CSOL — not the MLTSSL. That means there's no subclass 189 for this occupation. The visas it reaches are subclass 186, 190, 407, 482, 491 and 494.

For migration points, ANMAC runs two different assessments, and which one applies depends on where you're already registered — not the other way around.

The Full assessment, 595 dollars, is only for nurses registered in Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Singapore, Spain, the UK or the US. The Modified assessment, 395 dollars, needs current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, or its New Zealand equivalents.

If neither fits — no registration in one of those countries — the next step is Ahpra's internationally qualified nurse and midwife pathway. It starts with a Self-check, and for some applicants, an outcomes-based assessment, before either ANMAC assessment becomes available.

Ahpra's English standard for nursing registration changed on the 23rd of April, 2026. From that date: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall, 7.0 in listening, reading and speaking, and 6.5 in writing.

Tests taken on or before the 22nd of April, 2026 use the previous table instead: 7.0 in every band, no exceptions. And it's the same standard as Registered Nurse registration — Enrolled Nurse doesn't get an easier bar.

Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse is a well-established path. The 18-month Diploma of Nursing typically credits toward a Bachelor of Nursing, leaving about 2 more years of study while working.

One thing not to plan around: an older bridging option, the Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses program, has been replaced by the outcomes-based assessment. And Ahpra doesn't publish a fixed fee for the IQNM Self-check itself, so check ahpra.gov.au directly rather than a guessed figure.
