Lodge a visa application in ImmiAccount, and a bridging visa often appears on your account automatically. Here's what each one actually does.

A Bridging Visa A, subclass zero one zero, is usually granted automatically when you lodge a valid application — and it's free.

It doesn't activate straight away. While your current substantive visa is still valid, the BVA sits granted but not yet in effect. It only activates once that visa ceases.

Want to travel while you wait? That's a separate visa. A Bridging Visa B, subclass zero two zero, is applied for using Form one zero zero six, not granted automatically.

It requires already holding a BVA or BVB, with substantial reasons to leave and return. Apply no more than three months, and not less than two weeks, before you travel. It costs five hundred and seventy five dollars, with a one hundred and ninety five dollar concession in some cases.

So which form? Form one zero zero six is specifically for a BVB travel request. Form one zero zero five is different — it's for a new bridging visa after one has ceased, different conditions, or judicial review.

A Bridging Visa C, subclass zero three zero, is granted in narrower circumstances — usually a further application while already on a BVA or BVB. It does not let you travel, unlike a BVB.

Don't assume your bridging visa carries the same conditions as your last one. Condition codes — like eight one zero one, eight two zero one, or eight three zero three — can differ, and VEVO shows exactly which ones apply.

The mix-up worth avoiding: using Form one zero zero five for a routine travel request. That's Form one zero zero six's job — check the visa listing before you lodge either one.
