"Received" doesn't mean someone is reviewing your case. Here's what each ImmiAccount status actually means.
Every application moves through seven statuses, in a strict order, from Incomplete to Finalised.
The first four cover getting the application in the door: Incomplete, Ready to submit, Submitted, and Received.
The last three cover the actual review: Initial assessment, Further assessment, and Finalised.
Submitted means you've clicked the button — it's in transit. Received means the Department's system has formally accepted it. Stuck on Submitted past 48 hours? Check your messages for a payment problem.
"Received" does not mean someone is looking at it. Active review only begins at Initial assessment.
These names aren't original. Before 2 March 2018, the portal used different labels — the big change was "In Progress" becoming "Initial assessment." Everything else kept its name.
Further assessment can mean external security checks, health referrals, a formal request for more evidence, internal policy referrals, or verification with a third party.
Finalised only means a decision exists — not what it is. Open the notification in your messages, your linked email, or a formal letter, to find out whether it was granted or refused.
The single biggest mistake: reading "Received" as "someone's reviewing it." It just means the file's in the queue — and if you hold more than one application, each has its own separate status.
