What this visa is
Subclass 190 is a permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory. The 5 bonus points from state nomination usually mean an invitation, but you have to be on that state’s occupation list, meet their additional criteria (work experience in-state, commitment to stay, etc.), and submit an EOI plus a separate state application.
Where applications go wrong
Each state changes its program every financial year — sometimes mid-year. NSW, Victoria, Queensland, SA, WA, ACT, Tasmania and NT all want different things, and a wrong-state application can sit unactioned for months. A migration agent who tracks state programs week-by-week will steer you to the state most likely to nominate you, and time the EOI to the right round.
