What this visa is
The Business Innovation and Investment Programme (188 provisional, 888 permanent) was Australia’s pathway for business owners, investors, entrepreneurs and significant investors. The Department closed the programme to new applications on 31 July 2024, but tens of thousands of existing 188 holders and applicants are working through to 888 permanent residency.
Where applications go wrong
If you’re already in the BIIP pipeline, you still need to meet the rolling business and investment commitments to qualify for the 888. State requirements vary, and the Department is processing existing cases against the original criteria.
