Student Visa (Subclass 500)

Requirements for Bangladeshi Applicants

CoE: From a CRICOS-registered institution.

English proficiency: for tests taken from 7 August 2025, the visa itself needs IELTS 6.0 overall, or 5.5 overall with at least 10 weeks of packaged ELICOS, or 5.0 overall with at least 20 weeks. Your institution can and often does set a higher entry bar than this visa minimum. Nursing is separate: AHPRA's registration standard, changed 23 April 2026, is IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 7.0 in listening, reading and speaking and 6.5 in writing (or the equivalent on OET, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT or Cambridge C1 Advanced).

Financial evidence: Demonstrate:

• Full first-year tuition
• AUD 29,710/year living costs for the student, plus AUD 10,394 for an accompanying partner and AUD 4,449 per accompanying child
• Return travel

Evidence options: bank statements (funds held 3+ months), education loan from a Bangladeshi bank, scholarship letters, sponsor statutory declarations.

Since December 2024 the 482 has been the Skills in Demand visa, with three streams: Specialist Skills, Core Skills, and Labour Agreement. The Core Skills stream is the one most Bangladeshi applicants use.

Requirements

• Occupation on the relevant Core Skills Occupation List
• Minimum salary: the Core Skills Income Threshold (AUD 79,423 from 1 July 2026, indexed each 1 July) or market rate
• English: IELTS 5.0 each band

Cost: AUD 4,015 — one charge across every 482 stream. Core Skills stream grants run up to 4 years, with a pathway to permanent residence through the subclass 186 (TRT stream, after 2 years with the sponsor).

Partner Visa (820/801)

If your partner is an Australian citizen or PR holder.

Cost: AUD 11,710 (≈BDT 936,800), charged once on the combined 820/801 application.

Processing: 12-24+ months.

Document Requirements

Police clearance: From Bangladesh Police CID. Processing: 2-4 weeks.
