NAATI CCL Fees and Booking, Step by Step
Migratio Editorial · Last updated
TL;DR: The CCL test costs $814 AUD, unchanged by language, valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. A review of your result costs $187; an examiner-marked paid practice test costs $165 and does not count toward migration points. Booking runs through a myNAATI account: you apply, NAATI takes about 2 business days to process it, then you select an available date — bookings close one week before the test. There's no cap on how many times you can re-sit, but each attempt is charged the full fee again.
The cost question is usually the second thing people ask about CCL, right after whether their language is offered. NAATI publishes its fees directly and updates them annually, so this guide states the current 2026-27 figures with their source, walks through the actual myNAATI booking sequence, and covers what happens (and what it costs) if you don't pass first time. Every dollar figure here is quoted directly from NAATI's own Fees page, checked in August 2026.
The current fees, in full
As published on NAATI's own Fees page, valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 and inclusive of GST: the CCL test itself is $814 AUD. A review of your test result — if you believe your marking was wrong — is $187 AUD. A paid, examiner-marked practice test (using retired CCL material, marked to the same standard as the real test) is $165 AUD.
The fee is identical regardless of which of NAATI's ~55 offered languages you sit the test in — there is no premium for less common languages and no discount for more common ones. NAATI reviews and republishes its fee schedule annually each 1 July, so confirm the current figure on NAATI's site directly if you're reading this outside the 2026-27 period.
What the $814 does and doesn't include
The $814 fee covers one sitting of the actual CCL test — the two dialogues, remote proctoring, marking by a NAATI examiner, and issuing your result. It does not include a review of that result if you disagree with it (a separate $187 charge), and it does not include practice — the $165 practice test is entirely optional and separate.
It's worth being clear that NAATI does not offer any bundled or discounted rate for buying the practice test alongside the real one, and does not offer a reduced fee for a second or third real attempt. Each sitting, at any point, is the full $814.
The booking process, step by step
Booking runs entirely through a myNAATI online account. You create an account, then submit an application to sit the CCL test in your chosen language. NAATI states this application takes roughly 2 business days to process before you're able to select an actual test date from what's currently available.
Once approved, you choose a test date from the sessions NAATI has open at that time — these are released periodically rather than sitting on a fixed public calendar, so what's available when you apply depends on current scheduling for your specific language. Booking for a given session closes one week before the test date itself, after which that slot is no longer available to book.
For offshore applicants, in AUD and roughly converted
Most people researching this are applying from outside Australia, so it's worth anchoring the AUD figure. At representative August 2026 exchange rates, $814 AUD is roughly ₹45,000-46,000 INR or around US$530-540 — these are approximate and move with the exchange rate day to day, so treat them as orientation, not a number to budget against precisely. Pay the actual fee in AUD at the rate your card or bank applies on the day you book.
If you don't pass — the re-sit reality
NAATI publishes no maximum number of attempts and no mandatory waiting period between sittings. The practical constraints are: you can't lodge a new test application while a current one is still awaiting a result, and — as above — every attempt costs the full $814 again, with no discount for repeat candidates.
Because there's no official cooling-off period, how soon you re-sit is really a preparation question, not a NAATI rule — most candidates who don't pass first time use the gap to work specifically on whichever part of the marking (accuracy, language quality, or delivery — covered in the test-format guide linked below) let them down, rather than booking again immediately.
Results and credential validity
Results are emailed within 4-6 weeks of your test date. If you pass, the credential is valid for 5 years from the date of issue (results issued before 9 August 2022 carry a 3-year validity instead) — and you need to hold an unexpired credential at the point you actually claim the 5 points in a SkillSelect Expression of Interest, not just at some earlier point in your planning.
If your EOI timeline is likely to run past your credential's expiry, NAATI allows reapplying up to 6 months before it lapses, which is worth diarising rather than discovering the expiry date has already passed.
Budgeting realistically
A single successful attempt is $814. Add the optional $165 practice test if you want an examiner-graded dry run, and budget mentally for the possibility of a second $814 sitting if the first doesn't succeed — NAATI's own resit terms make clear this isn't a rare, exceptional outcome, it's simply how the fee structure is set up. Before spending anything, run your numbers through a points calculator to see what a 5-point swing actually changes for your case — then put the spending decision itself to a MARA-registered migration agent rather than deciding on cost alone. Migratio can match you with one.
