Who issues it: ACRO, not your local constabulary

You create an account, complete the form with your personal details and UK address history, upload identity documents and a passport-style photo to ACRO's specification, and pay by card.

Two service levels are offered: the standard service at £55, processed in 12 working days, and the premium service at £95, processed in four working days. Both prices include postage — first class within the UK or standard airmail to an overseas address, so delivery to Australia is covered, though airmail adds real days to the door-to-door time. Weekends and UK bank holidays are not working days. Fees change periodically, so treat these figures as a guide and check ACRO's current pricing when you apply.

A postal application route also exists but is slower and rarely worth it from Australia.
