Skills assessment
A positive skills assessment for Chief Executive or Managing Director comes from:
- Institute of Managers and Leaders National (IML) (official site)
What the assessment actually involves
IML assesses whether you held the most senior position in your organisation, reporting to the Board or equivalent governing body, not to another manager. With a highly relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree the pathway needs three years in a senior management role, at least two of them specifically as CEO or Managing Director; without that degree the same structure stretches to five years. IML also states it is unlikely that an organisation with fewer than fifty total staff would support employment experience at the required level, and that at least one year of the experience must be current within the last five years.
Where these applications come unstuck
Because you have no one more senior to sign your evidence, your Statement of Employment and Organisational Chart can instead be signed off by the Head of HR, but you must also supply audited financial reports, or an equivalent, showing your organisation's revenue and staffing for the last three years. Skipping that extra financial evidence, or submitting a chart that does not clearly show the Board relationship above you, is a common way this specific application stalls even when the years of experience are genuinely there.
An honest read on this pathway
This occupation sits on the MLTSSL and the CSOL in Migratio's published data, reaching the 186, 407, 482 and 494 visas — but not 189 or 485, which is unusual for an MLTSSL code and is logged as an unresolved data question rather than settled fact. Treat the published visa list as-is rather than assuming full MLTSSL reach. The assessment itself is squarely about seniority and governance, not job title: a Managing Director who in practice answers to a parent-company CEO is not this code.
