VETASSESS assesses Cafe or Restaurant Manager as a Group C occupation — AQF Diploma or higher, with four pathways trading field relevance for extra years of employment. Its own page names two direct exclusions: a general-management MBA and a tourism diploma without hospitality management subjects do not count as highly relevant, pushing an applicant with either toward the four-year, no-relevant-field pathway rather than the one-year fast track. Like every managerial code in this family, an organisational chart naming staff you managed is required evidence alongside the standard employer references.
Where these applications come unstuck
The trap is nominating this code for a fast-food or quick-service outlet. VETASSESS's page for Cafe or Restaurant Manager excludes Hotel or Motel Manager and Retail Manager (General) by name — and separately, Retail Manager (General)'s own page claims fast-food and quick-service restaurant managers for itself. A manager whose restaurant is a takeaway counter is being told to nominate the other code, which reaches employer sponsorship this code does not. Getting that wrong risks an assessment against duties the employment record doesn't actually match.
An honest read on this pathway
This code is STSOL-only — it reaches state nomination, the graduate 407, Skilled Work Regional and Skills in Demand Regional, but never Employer Nomination or the Skills in Demand main stream. A cafe or full-service restaurant manager cannot be employer-sponsored under this code at all, regardless of how strong the employer's offer is — only a state or regional pathway is available, and the regional visa is the sole door shared with the wider hospitality family.
