Which lists is Singer on?

ROL — Regional Occupation List. Occupations on the ROL are limited to the regional provisional visas — mainly the Skilled Work Regional 491 and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional 494.

Processing priority

Singer isn't in any of the ANZSCO groups that Directions 121 and 122 list for the priority sectors. Some of the first group is defined by the job rather than the code: a nominated position directly involved in agriculture, aquaculture or fishing, one that directly supports mining, oil and gas or coal production, or one related to defence. Otherwise the application is processed after the priority sectors. For the permanent and provisional skilled visas, applicants who were in Australia when they applied come next, then those who applied from outside Australia. For the 482, Specialist Skills stream applications come before both.

Singer is a Group B occupation, assessed against an AQF Bachelor degree or higher in a highly relevant field plus the standard employment test. Where these applications come unstuck

Musician (Instrumental)'s own occupation page explicitly names Singer among its excluded titles — a working musician whose role is primarily vocal, not instrumental, is classified separately by VETASSESS's own rule. That distinction has real consequences here, because the two codes sit on very different lists, and a vocalist nominating under Musician (Instrumental) by assuming 'musician' is the broader, safer umbrella term is nominating under a code the authority's own page says does not cover their actual work.

Singer is Regional Occupation List only, reaching a single visa — subclass 494. Music Professionals nec, the residual catch-all code for music work that doesn't fit a named title, reaches four visas including 190 and 407. One of the most recognisable job titles in the whole family sits on a thinner list than its own nec code — worth knowing before assuming the specific, named title is automatically the stronger choice.
