Skills assessment
A positive skills assessment for Artistic Director comes from:

What the assessment actually involves
Artistic Director is one of only two Group A occupations in this family, alongside Media Producer (excluding Video) — Group A requires an AQF Bachelor degree or higher unconditionally in a field the authority considers highly relevant, with no lesser-field pathway available at all. Unlike Group B codes elsewhere in this family, there is no route to substitute extra years of employment for a non-relevant qualification under this code.
Where these applications come unstuck
The unconditional highly-relevant-field requirement is the real trap here: an accomplished working artistic director with a long career but a business degree, or an unrelated arts-adjacent degree, has no fallback pathway that the general framework's Pathway 2, 3 or 4 options would otherwise provide for a Group B or C code. The qualification has to be in a highly relevant field from the outset, regardless of how senior or well-evidenced the employment history is.
An honest read on this pathway
Artistic Director reaches all eight visas this family covers — 186, 189, 190, 407, 482, 485, 491 and 494 — the richest reach of any code here, tied with Music Director. That is a striking contrast with Media Producer (excluding Video), the other Group A code in this family, which carries the identical unconditional qualification bar but reaches only the single subclass 494 visa.
VETASSESS assesses qualifications and employment separately. Both need documentation that agrees with itself. The Employment History Builder and Document Vault organise each trail before you lodge.
