MLTSSL — Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. The widest list — occupations on the MLTSSL can access the points-tested permanent skilled visas including the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which needs no state nomination or employer.
CSOL — Core Skills Occupation List. The employer-sponsorship list — occupations on the CSOL can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme 186.

Skills assessment
Management Accountant can be assessed by any of these authorities:
- Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) (official site)
- CPA Australia Ltd (CPAA) (official site)
- Institute of Public Accountants Ltd (IPA) (official site)
What the assessment actually involves
CPA Australia, the IPA and Chartered Accountants ANZ each independently assess Management Accountant, and the outcome from one body does not carry over to another. It sits in the same competency group as Accountant (General), Corporate Treasurer and Finance Manager, so CPA requires the identical seven mandatory areas — Accounting Systems and Processes, Business Law, Economics, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Finance and Financial Management, Management Accounting, Quantitative Methods — against a qualification assessed as at least bachelor-equivalent. ANZSCO's own task description marks the code out from its neighbours: performance-based reporting, asset valuation, budgetary systems, cost management, pricing and forecasting, rather than the compliance-based reporting that defines Accountant (General).
Where these applications come unstuck
The competency table gives Management Accountant no extra area beyond the shared seven, so the usual failure isn't a missing subject — it's evidence written to the wrong job. CPA reads the skilled employment claim against ANZSCO's performance-based, cost-and-forecasting definition; a testimonial describing compliance reporting, auditing or bookkeeping duties reads as Accountant (General) work, not this code. The same employment rules bite regardless: only post-degree work counts, concurrent roles cannot be stacked past twelve months in any twelve-month window, and CVs are not accepted as evidence.
An honest read on this pathway
Management Accountant reaches the same MLTSSL/CSOL visa spread as the rest of the family, and shares its competency bar with Accountant (General), Corporate Treasurer and Finance Manager — so the code choice among those four is really a question of which job title and duties your evidence actually supports, not which is easier to pass. CPA's own alternative title for the code, cost accountant, is worth checking against a foreign job title before nominating. As with the rest of the family, a positive outcome is a migration document, not membership of any professional body.
Whichever authority assesses you, the paperwork is the part applicants underestimate. The Document Vault keeps a single register of every document, what it was needed for, and what is still missing.
