Which lists is Finance Broker on?
STSOL — Short-term Skilled Occupation List. Occupations on the STSOL can access state-nominated and regional skilled visas (190/491), but not the Skilled Independent 189.
CSOL — Core Skills Occupation List. The employer-sponsorship list — occupations on the CSOL can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme 186.

Processing priority

VETASSESS assesses Finance Broker under Group C, the same Diploma-level, four-pathway structure as Commodities Trader and Insurance Broker, against Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Accounting, Management, Commerce or Business as highly relevant fields. Its own page excludes Insurance Broker and Commodities Trader by name. Separately from the skills assessment, mortgage and finance brokers arranging loans operate as Australian credit licensees, or as a credit representative of one, under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act.
Where these applications come unstuck
The confusable-code risk sits with Financial Brokers nec, VETASSESS's catch-all for complex and commercial finance work — equipment finance, project finance, finance for property developers — rather than the straightforward personal or home loan broking this code covers. Nominating the nec code when the work is really Finance Broker closes off 482 and 186 for no assessment-difficulty reason. On the licensing side, applicants sometimes assume the AFS licensing regime that covers Insurance Broker also applies here; it does not.

Finance Broker sits on STSOL and CSOL and reaches 482 and 186, so employer sponsorship is genuinely on the table. The licensing overlay sits under the National Credit Act rather than ASIC's AFS regime, with a statutory best interests duty in force since 1 January 2021 — a separate compliance track from Insurance Broker's AFS authorisation, not an easier or harder version of the same one.
