Which lists is Valuer on?

MLTSSL — Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. The widest list — occupations on the MLTSSL can access the points-tested permanent skilled visas including the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which needs no state nomination or employer.

CSOL — Core Skills Occupation List. The employer-sponsorship list — occupations on the CSOL can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme 186.

What the assessment actually involves

VETASSESS assesses Valuer under Group A, against Valuation as the named highly relevant field, split into two separate subject lists depending on whether the subsequent employment is property valuation (land, property, rental, cash-flow, feasibility) or non-property valuation (plant, equipment, chattels, motor vehicle, business). Its own page excludes roles with a primary focus on urban and regional planning and design, drawing the line against Land Economist on whether the work is personally producing valuations.

Where these applications come unstuck

The most consequential mistake is assuming a Valuer assessment is portable across every Australian state. Queensland requires registration with the Valuers Registration Board of Queensland; Western Australia requires a licence under the Land Valuers Licensing Act; New South Wales repealed its own registration requirement effective 1 March 2016 and instead relies on membership of a recognised professional body. An applicant compliant in one state is not automatically compliant in another.

An honest read on this pathway

Valuer sits on MLTSSL and CSOL and reaches all eight visas, the same list footing as Land Economist, Actuary and Statistician. The genuinely open question is state licensing, not visa reach: Queensland and Western Australia both require separate registration regardless of the VETASSESS outcome, NSW does not, and Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory were not checked in this research.
