Which lists is Landscape Architect on?

MLTSSL — Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. The widest list — occupations on the MLTSSL can access the points-tested permanent skilled visas including the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which needs no state nomination or employer.

CSOL — Core Skills Occupation List. The employer-sponsorship list — occupations on the CSOL can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme 186.

VETASSESS assesses Landscape Architect under its standard Group A pathway: a qualification assessed as comparable to an AQF Bachelor degree or higher in a field highly relevant to the occupation — specifically Landscape Architecture — plus at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level, undertaken in the last five years, at 20 or more hours a week, and highly relevant to the nominated occupation. VETASSESS states directly that degrees in Architectural studies or Landscape Design without specific landscape subjects will not be assessed positively, and its own Landscape Architect page lists Architect first among the occupations it will not consider under this code at all.

Where these applications come unstuck

The recurring trap is the shared word, not the actual work: a building-design architecture degree, or a landscape design qualification without dedicated landscape-architecture subjects, does not satisfy VETASSESS's highly-relevant-field test for this specific code, even though the two disciplines sound interchangeable to an outsider. Nominating Architect instead of Landscape Architect (or the reverse) sends an application to VETASSESS when the correct authority is AACA, or vice versa — two entirely different assessing bodies, evidence sets and fees, with no internal reroute between them.

Landscape Architect carries both MLTSSL and CSOL, so the visa pathway is genuinely open to a candidate whose degree specifically covers landscape subjects and whose post-qualification employment matches. This research found no state licensing or protected-title regime for "landscape architect" the way "architect" itself is protected by state Architects Acts — that gap is not confirmed absent, simply not found in the authority sources checked, so it is worth confirming directly with the relevant state before assuming none exists.
