Career Episodes need to demonstrate petroleum-specific engineering competency; general mining or mechanical engineering experience, even in an extraction context, does not substitute.

The main risk is treating Mining Engineer and Petroleum Engineer as interchangeable because both sit under mining-adjacent extraction work. Engineers Australia's occupation title explicitly separates them — 'excluding Petroleum' is written into the mining code — and a Petroleum Engineer nomination needs Career Episodes grounded in reservoir engineering, well design or drilling, not general resource-extraction experience.
