Visas this occupation can access

Being on a list makes the occupation nominatable for these visas — each visa still has its own requirements (points, age, English, a positive skills assessment, and for sponsored visas a willing employer or state).

Skills assessment

A positive skills assessment for Primary School Teacher comes from:

What the assessment actually involves

AITSL assesses this code purely on qualifications — there is no separate employment-experience test. You need at least four years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education study, including a relevant initial teacher education qualification; this can be one four-year degree or a shorter bachelor's plus a graduate teaching qualification stacked together. Within that study, the ITE component must include at least 45 days of supervised teaching practice — a real school placement, formally assessed by your university, with students in the primary age range. Other qualifications only add to the four years if they sit at Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level or higher; short courses, professional development and unfinished qualifications count for nothing. Holding Australian teacher registration is not required before you apply.

Where these applications come unstuck

The 45 supervised-teaching-practice days have no substitute — AITSL states plainly that work experience before or after your qualification is not counted as STP, so a shorter or undocumented placement inside your degree can't be topped up later with classroom years. English is assessed only through Academic IELTS (7.0 reading and writing, 8.0 speaking and listening) taken within the last three years, or a full four years of ITE study completed entirely in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the US; AITSL will not accept PTE, TOEFL, Cambridge or ISLPR as a substitute. Holding Australian registration doesn't waive any of this — the full evidence set is still required even from a registered applicant.

An honest read on this pathway

Primary School Teacher sits on the STSOL rather than the MLTSSL, which narrows the visa list compared with Secondary Teacher even though both codes are assessed the same way. A suitable AITSL outcome is a migration document, not permission to teach — working in a classroom needs separate state or territory teacher registration, run independently by bodies like NESA in NSW or VIT in Victoria, each re-checking the same qualification and 45-day placement rather than accepting AITSL's letter as proof. Registration in one state doesn't transfer to another. A Working With Children Check for the specific state you work in sits on top of that again, before you can be employed.

Whichever authority assesses you, the paperwork is the part applicants underestimate. The Document Vault keeps a single register of every document, what it was needed for, and what is still missing.
