VETASSESS assesses Education Adviser under Group A: a qualification comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree or higher, plus at least one year of highly relevant post-qualification employment in the last five years at 20 or more hours a week — wording that reads essentially identically to Education Reviewer's own page. What distinguishes the two is the job itself: Adviser conducts educational research and develops course curricula and associated teaching materials, with suitable occupations including Curriculum Advisory Teacher, Education Officer, Home-School Liaison Officer and Preschool Adviser.
Where these applications come unstuck
Because the qualification and employment criteria text is word-for-word the same as Education Reviewer's, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that these are genuinely different roles. An applicant whose actual duties sit closer to reviewing and examining the work of other teachers — Education Reviewer's territory — risks a mismatch even with a strong Bachelor-plus-employment case, because the occupation description, not the criteria wording, is what the evidence has to match.
An honest read on this pathway
This code sits on the STSOL only — no CSOL placement, which means no route through the 482 or the 186 at all, reaching only the 190, 407, 491 and 494. That is materially narrower than several other Group A codes in this family with the identical qualification bar, so it is worth checking the actual visa list before assuming Adviser opens the same doors as its close relatives.
