VETASSESS treats Naturopath as a distinct occupation from the complementary-health fields immediately around it, and states the exclusions directly on its own page: "Occupations not considered under this ANZSCO code: Homoeopath Ayurvedic Practitioner These occupations are classified elsewhere in ANZSCO." It goes further on field of study specifically: "Homeopathy and Ayurvedic Medicine/Ayurveda cannot be assessed as highly relevant to Naturopath." Naturopath sits on the STSOL alone, reaching four visas, with no CSOL membership and no 186 or 482 sponsored route — narrower than its own nec catch-all, Complementary Health Therapists nec, which carries STSOL plus CSOL and six visas.

The pitfall VETASSESS closes explicitly is borrowing Naturopath's list access for training that is really homeopathic or Ayurvedic in content. Its own page states this cannot be done twice over — first by naming Homoeopath and Ayurvedic Practitioner as excluded occupations, then by ruling directly that homeopathic or Ayurvedic training "cannot be assessed as highly relevant to Naturopath." An applicant whose actual practice sits closer to homeopathy than naturopathy should expect to be assessed against Homoeopath instead — a materially narrower code, Regional Occupation List only, reaching a single visa — rather than gaining Naturopath's broader access through a nearby-sounding qualification.
