Which lists is Nurse Practitioner on?

MLTSSL — Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. The widest list — occupations on the MLTSSL can access the points-tested permanent skilled visas including the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which needs no state nomination or employer.

What the assessment actually involves

This code is different in kind from the other Registered Nurse codes, not just more specialised. ANMAC describes nurse practitioners as providing advanced nursing care, ordering tests, diagnosing and prescribing care, medicines and therapies, and as registered nurses with advanced education and endorsement to practise at an advanced level. It publishes a separate Nurse Practitioner Accreditation Standard, distinct from the single Registered Nurse standard that covers every other code in this family, which is the clearest signal that this sits on top of RN registration rather than beside it.

Where these applications come unstuck

The recent-experience rule that governs every other code in this family does not open this one. A three-month reference in critical care will earn you a critical care code; it will never earn you Nurse Practitioner. What this code requires is a recognised nurse practitioner qualification and endorsement from the Nursing and Midwifery Board, and no amount of senior clinical work substitutes for that endorsement. Applicants who lead teams or practise autonomously in systems without a formal NP endorsement are usually evidenced for an RN code instead.

An honest read on this pathway

On the MLTSSL and CSOL with the full visa range, and genuinely scarce, which makes it attractive on paper. The practical constraint is that the endorsement is the gate rather than the assessment, and endorsement is a Board matter that sits outside ANMAC's process entirely. If you hold advanced practice qualifications from another country, the honest first question is whether the Board recognises them for endorsement, not whether ANMAC will assess you.
