Skills assessment
A positive skills assessment for Database Administrator comes from:
- Australian Computer Society Incorporated (ACS) (official site) · our guide to the ACS process
What the assessment actually involves
ACS defines Database Administrator as planning, developing, configuring, maintaining and supporting an organisation's database management system to ensure integrity, security, backup, reliability and performance. That is the identical shape of role to Systems Administrator's definition, just applied to a different layer of the stack: the database itself rather than the operating system and server estate underneath it. The code sits on the STSOL and CSOL, not the MLTSSL, so it is assessed under the same qualification-or-experience framework as its siblings but does not carry the points-tested reach that framework can lead to elsewhere in the family.
Where these applications come unstuck
Small teams routinely hand one person the servers, the storage and the database running on top of them, and that combined job has no single ACS code that covers it cleanly. Nominating Database Administrator when the reference letter is dominated by general server and OS work reads as a mismatch, and the reverse is equally true. The letter needs to isolate the database-management-system work specifically, not the surrounding infrastructure it happened to sit on.
An honest read on this pathway
STSOL and CSOL only, so it reaches employer sponsorship and state nomination but not the points-tested 189, and not the temporary graduate 485 either. It does appear on South Australia's combined DAMA occupation list under ICT Professionals, which is one of the few concessions available to a code without MLTSSL access. For an applicant weighing this code against Systems Administrator, the honest answer from ACS's own material is that the visa reach is identical either way; only the duty match differs.
Assembling an ACS application? ACS wants employment evidence that lines up exactly with the dates and duties you claim elsewhere. The Skilled Visa EOI Organiser keeps your claims consistent across the skills assessment, EOI and Form 80 — inconsistencies between them are a common cause of delay.
