Which lists is Blacksmith on?

ROL — Regional Occupation List. Occupations on the ROL are limited to the regional provisional visas — mainly the Skilled Work Regional 491 and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional 494.

Processing priority

Blacksmith isn't in any of the ANZSCO groups that Directions 121 and 122 list for the priority sectors. Some of the first group is defined by the job rather than the code: a nominated position directly involved in agriculture, aquaculture or fishing, one that directly supports mining, oil and gas or coal production, or one related to defence. Otherwise the application is processed after the priority sectors. Trades Recognition Australia has no per-occupation page for Blacksmith — it runs a small set of assessment programs and TRA itself says it “cannot advise you on the right occupation for your application.” Its eligibility wording for the Migration Skills Assessment, Offshore Skills Assessment and TSS programs names only the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List and the Short-term Skilled Occupations List. Blacksmith sits on the Regional Occupation List alone, so it is not literally covered by that wording, and this dossier could not find TRA material resolving which of its programs, if any, a Blacksmith applicant would actually use.

The costly assumption is treating Regional Occupation List membership as opening the same TRA door that the strategic skills lists do. An applicant who assumes eligibility by analogy with a sibling trade on a better list risks lodging the wrong program, or lodging one TRA never intended to cover this occupation. There is also no ANZSCO licensing flag for Blacksmith at all, so nothing on the classification side signals a state registration requirement either.

TRA's reachable material does not discuss the 494 pathway specifically, so whether a TRA assessment is even required for a 494 nomination in this occupation, or sits instead with a sponsoring state or regional body, is genuinely unresolved and worth confirming directly before relying on it.
