STSOL — Short-term Skilled Occupation List. Occupations on the STSOL can access state-nominated and regional skilled visas (190/491), but not the Skilled Independent 189.

Jeweller isn't in any of the ANZSCO groups that Directions 121 and 122 list for the priority sectors. Some of the first group is defined by the job rather than the code: a nominated position directly involved in agriculture, aquaculture or fishing, one that directly supports mining, oil and gas or coal production, or one related to defence. Otherwise the application is processed after the priority sectors. For the permanent and provisional skilled visas, applicants who were in Australia when they applied come next, then those who applied from outside Australia. Jeweller is the one code in this thirteen-occupation family without any employer-sponsorship visa at all: it carries the Short-term Skilled Occupation List with no Core Skills Occupation List placement, so 186 and 482 — the two employer-sponsorship routes every other code in this family has — are simply not open. The doors that remain are 190 (state or territory nomination), 407 (Training), 491 and 494 (regional). Where these applications come unstuck

An employer wanting to sponsor a jeweller directly cannot use 186 or 482 for this code — the strategy has to run through state nomination or a regional pathway instead, a materially different plan from every other trade in this family. Jewellery work is also plausibly self-employed or cash-paid in many markets, and TRA's Migration Skills Assessment states plainly that cash payments cannot serve as the documentary pay evidence it requires, so that portion of a claimed employment history is simply not counted.

Jeweller's visa position is the narrowest employer-sponsorship story in this family, even though it is not the narrowest overall — Wool Classer's single-route reach is tighter still. Anyone assuming a jeweller can be sponsored the way a boat builder or signwriter can needs to plan around 190, 407, 491 or 494 instead. No TRA source reachable here specifies a qualification level for this code, and self-employed or informally trained jewellers without a matching formal qualification should expect MSA's no-experience-substitute rule to apply in full.
