Processing priority

VETASSESS assesses Driving Instructor as a Group D occupation, requiring an AQF Certificate III or IV — the pathway wording covers both — plus at least one year of highly relevant employment in the last five years, at 20 hours a week or more. The role is defined around teaching learner and licensed drivers the skills and road rules needed to obtain or upgrade a driving licence, so evidence needs to show actual instructional duties, not simply holding a driver's licence yourself. Standard employer references, payslips and tax records apply, matched against the qualification and the specific training or vehicle-class specialisation claimed.
Where these applications come unstuck
Driving Instructor sits on the ROL only, reaching 407, 491 and 494 — no 186, 482, 189 or 190, so there is no employer-sponsored or independent-permanent door for this occupation whatever the assessment itself decides. The bigger trap sits after the visa: VETASSESS carries no licensing disclaimer on this page, yet both NSW and Victoria require a separate, state-issued personal instructor credential before anyone can legally teach — NSW under the Driving Instructors Act 1992, Victoria under a different scheme referencing the Road Safety Act. Assuming the VETASSESS assessment alone clears someone to instruct is wrong in every state checked.
An honest read on this pathway
This is a state-licensing-heavy occupation dressed as a straightforward Certificate III/IV assessment. NSW licenses the individual directly through Transport for NSW; Victoria authorises the individual through Safe Transport Victoria under different founding legislation — different names, different bodies, the same underlying Certificate IV-level training requirement. Only these two states were checked here; the other six jurisdictions were not, so don't assume either state's process, or its terminology, carries over nationally before checking the relevant regulator directly.
