What the assessment actually involves
Group C, the same diploma-plus-employment structure as Legal Secretary and Conveyancer. VETASSESS describes the role as acting 'for and on behalf of clients in the areas of property transfer, company and business law, trusts, wills, probate and litigation under the general supervision of a barrister or solicitor,' with tasks including interviewing clients, preparing cases for court, and — VETASSESS's own words — 'may supervise law clerks and legal secretaries and take responsibility for their work.'
Where these applications come unstuck
Legal Executive is ROL-only — VETASSESS states directly that 'this occupation is only available for the skilled employer sponsored regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494),' no CSOL, no 186 or 482. That is the family's sharpest inversion: VETASSESS's own task description places Legal Executive above Legal Secretary and Law Clerk in seniority and client contact, yet it is the one of the three with the narrowest visa reach.
An honest read on this pathway
Seniority does not track visa reach here — the more senior of the support titles reaches only the regional 494, capped by VETASSESS's own wording, not an oversight. And a positive assessment is not a licence: this is work benchmarked against 'general supervision of a barrister or solicitor,' and admission to legal practice sits entirely outside VETASSESS, controlled state by state through each jurisdiction's own admitting authority.
