Skills assessment

A positive skills assessment for Insurance Agent comes from:

What the assessment actually involves

Insurance Agent is a VETASSESS Group D occupation, needing Certificate III or higher plus the standard one-year highly-relevant-employment pathway. It sits in the same 6112 unit group as the real-estate codes but reaches six visa subclasses (186, 190, 407, 482, 491, 494) — the same wide spread as the two 511xxx administrator codes, and unmatched by any other 611 or 612 code in this family, including Real Estate Agent and Business Broker, all of which reach only 494.

Where these applications come unstuck

VETASSESS names Insurance Broker, Insurance Consultant, Financial Investment Adviser and Sales Representative (Business Services) as occupations NOT considered under this code, so a title that sounds interchangeable with Insurance Agent on a resume can be the wrong nomination even where the day-to-day work looks similar. VETASSESS's own occupation page also does not mention that selling general insurance in Australia additionally requires operating under a federal AFS licence or as an authorised representative of one — a completely separate regulatory layer from the state property-licence regime governing the real-estate codes in this same family.

An honest read on this pathway

The pathway is the widest-reaching in the real-estate/sales half of this family, including the 482 employer-sponsored route the licensed real-estate roles cannot use at all. But an applicant checking only the VETASSESS page will not learn about the ASIC/AFS-licence requirement that governs whether they can legally sell insurance once here — that has to be checked separately with the federal regulator.

VETASSESS assesses qualifications and employment separately. Both need documentation that agrees with itself. The Employment History Builder and Document Vault organise each trail before you lodge.
