What are your English scores worth in migration points?
Enter your IELTS or PTE Academic component scores to see your Australian English level — competent, proficient or superior — and the skilled-migration points it earns. Your level is set by your lowest component, because the threshold must be met in every one of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Thresholds shown are the Home Affairs English levels for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. Indicative only, not migration advice.

Common questions
How do English test scores become migration points?
For the skilled points test, competent English earns 0 points (the baseline), proficient English earns 10 points, and superior English earns 20 points. Your English level is set by your lowest component — you must meet the threshold in all four of listening, reading, writing and speaking.
What IELTS score gives 20 points?
Superior English — IELTS 8.0 in each of the four components — earns 20 points. Proficient (7.0 in each) earns 10 points, and competent (6.0 in each) earns 0 points but meets the baseline for most skilled visas.
What PTE score do I need for proficient or superior English?
On PTE Academic, proficient English is 65 in each component (10 points) and superior English is 79 in each component (20 points). Competent is 47 listening, 48 reading, 51 writing and 54 speaking. Always confirm the current thresholds on the Home Affairs website.
