Locked out of ImmiAccount? There's no way to speed up the wait — but there is a way to avoid it happening again.
Too many failed login attempts locks your account for 4 hours, tied to your email address, with no way to unlock it early.
It's usually one of four things: a wrong password, browser autofill inserting an old one, a family member or agent trying to log in, or a password manager submitting the wrong entry.
Forgotten your password? Use the reset link on the login page, check your email for the reset message, and set a new password that meets the Department's complexity rules.
Since 18 June 2025, multi-factor authentication is mandatory on every ImmiAccount login — a second code on top of your password.
Authenticator app codes are time-based and only valid for about 30 seconds. Enter an expired one, and the login fails.
The Terms of Use, sections 5.1 and 5.6, ban shared email accounts. Each ImmiAccount needs its own individual email — family members, sponsors and applicants included.
"Invalid username or password" means check both fields — the email is case-insensitive, the password isn't. "System is currently unavailable" usually means scheduled maintenance.
A surprising number of login issues clear up with a simple browser fix: clear your cache, disable ad blockers, or switch to a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
The most common mistake isn't the lockout itself — it's continuing to try during it, instead of using the 4-hour wait to have a new password ready when it lifts.
