If you trained as a physiotherapist overseas, one of 3 Australian Physiotherapy Council pathways gets you registered here — and the fastest costs $1,650.
Express FLYR costs $1,650 in total. FLYR costs $3,422. And the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway, or APEP, costs $7,814.
Express FLYR is only for physiotherapists from Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, or South Africa. It has 2 stages and can finish in under 3 weeks.
FLYR is for the Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, or parts of the United States: Texas, Massachusetts, and California. It has 3 stages, including a written test.
Everyone else uses APEP: 4 stages. An Eligibility Assessment. A Written Assessment. A Capability Assessment. And a Clinical Workshop in Melbourne.
The Capability Assessment is a 1.5-hour, remote oral exam. It's only part of APEP — candidates on FLYR or Express FLYR don't sit it.
Express FLYR can finish in under 3 weeks. APEP takes about 9 months, according to APC, for candidates who move as fast as possible.
Registering to practise is separate from the Skills Assessment some visas need. That one costs $1,674 and takes 8 to 10 weeks to process.
Ahpra's English standard changed on 23 April 2026: IELTS 7.0 overall, with 6.5 in writing. Tests from before 22 April 2026 use the old table.
According to APC, Ahpra's limited registration can let you work under supervision while you're still going through an assessment pathway.
Physiotherapist is on Australia's skilled occupation lists, reaching a subclass 189, a subclass 190, a subclass 491, and a subclass 482.
One thing to watch: APC's fees are due to rise from 21 October 2026, so a quote today may not hold. Confirm current fees and your own eligibility directly with APC and Ahpra before you pay.
