Wise says it never marks up the exchange rate. We checked its own quote tool — the markup showed as 0.0 percent.

On 24 September 2026, sending $1,000 Australian through Wise cost between $3.90 and $5.89, depending on the currency.

Send more, and the percentage usually drops. On the same AUD to EUR corridor, 1,000 dollars cost 0.39 percent. 10,000 dollars cost 0.32 percent.

Wise's own pricing for its Australian-dollar-to-Philippine-peso corridor shows the fee tier stepping down again above 40,000 dollars.

The Wise account itself can hold and convert more than 40 currencies, with local receiving details for many of them.

On the Wise card in Australia, ATM withdrawals are fee-free up to 400 dollars a month combined — not a fixed number of withdrawals. Above that, a percentage fee applies.

Wise Australia Pty Ltd holds Australian Financial Services Licence number 513764 for payments and currency exchange. A separate entity holds licence number 545411 for the account's interest feature.

What Wise doesn't do: cash pickup, and forward contracts to lock in a future exchange rate. Every transfer converts at the rate on the day.

For larger transfers, Wise has a dedicated team for amounts above roughly 50,000 pounds or the equivalent, and may ask for identity and source-of-funds documents first.

The one thing worth checking yourself: Wise's own pricing page, on the day you send, because the fee changes with both the amount and the currency.
