Sending money with OFX can mean a flat $15 fee — or none at all, depending on how much you send.
Send under $10,000 with OFX and it charges a flat $15 fee. Send $10,000 or more, and that separate fee disappears.
Wise works differently. It shows a percentage fee as its own line item, plus the mid-market exchange rate, on every transfer regardless of size.
Send over $40,000 in a month on Wise, across one or more transfers, and its fee automatically drops for the rest of that month.
Wise adds its fee to the real mid-market rate. OFX instead builds its margin into the exchange rate it quotes you — it doesn't publish a margin percentage.
Wise typically delivers in 1 to 2 business days. OFX typically takes 1 to 3. Both depend on the corridor and funding method.
OFX's business page advertises 30 plus currencies to 170 plus countries. Wise covers a wide range too — check its own list for your specific corridor.
Neither company publishes one fixed maximum transfer amount on its website. Both say to check directly for very large sums.
Wise's Australian entity holds Australian Financial Services Licence number 513764. OFX says it holds its own AFSL and has operated for over 25 years.
OFX also offers forward contracts and limit orders, letting you lock in a rate for a future date. Wise's consumer product doesn't offer these.
Which costs less depends on your amount, corridor and the day's rates. Compare the total your recipient would actually receive for your specific transfer.
