Urology is one of RACS' nine named surgical specialties, assessed through the same Specialist Assessment structure as the college's other eight: a document-based review — scope of practice, prior training, recent specialist practice, continuing development — first, proceeding to interview only where the paper stage has not already resolved the outcome. RACS assesses on the Medical Board's behalf; the Board itself makes the registration decision once RACS' comparability finding is issued.

RACS' recency-of-practice standard applies without modification: roughly twelve months worked in urology within the past twenty-four, evidenced rather than assumed from seniority. A separate, common trap across RACS specialties — the supervised-practice arrangement itself needs RACS-approved supervisors; an applicant cannot arrange their own supervision with any consultant willing to sign the paperwork. Training-programme comparability is judged holistically, not credential by credential, which can help or hinder depending on how differently the overseas program was structured.
