Skills assessment
A positive skills assessment for Organisational Psychologist comes from:
- Australian Psychological Society Limited (APS) (official site)
What the assessment actually involves
Organisational Psychologist goes through the identical APS process as the other three psychologist codes — comparability of the overseas qualification against AQF and APAC 2019 standards, six-tier grading, and only the six-year APAC-accredited outcome supporting a migration-suitable result. APS does not let an applicant nominate Organisational Psychologist directly; its own outcome letter states the assessment will include "the relevant ANZSCO code (if found suitable)," meaning the authority attaches the code as part of the outcome rather than the applicant selecting it upfront. There is also a separate APS product worth knowing exists — a skilled employment statement, for turning already-assessed work history into Points Test evidence, a distinct service from the qualifications assessment itself.
Where these applications come unstuck
Organisational is one of AHPRA's nine PsyBA-approved areas of practice endorsement by name, which makes the migration code and the professional title look interchangeable when they are not. Endorsement in Organisational Psychology needs general PsyBA registration first, then an APAC-accredited postgraduate degree specifically in organisational psychology, then a PsyBA registrar program of at least 1500 supervised hours in that same area — none of which the migration assessment checks or confirms at all. APS's own submission to government also described a provisional-registration employment catch-22 affecting successfully-assessed migrant psychologists generally: unable to get work without general registration, and unable to complete the transitional program that leads to it without first finding work.
An honest read on this pathway
Organisational Psychologist reaches all eight skilled visas — 186, 189, 190, 407, 482, 485, 491, 494 — the same full reach as Clinical, Educational and nec, so nothing about visa access separates this code from its three siblings. The real distinction to plan around sits downstream of the visa: general registration, the transitional employment bind, and area-of-practice endorsement are each separate steps, separately assessed, on their own timelines and with their own bodies. A positive APS outcome is a real, useful migration document. It is not evidence that a Psychology Board assessment will reach the same conclusion, and it is not the endorsed Organisational Psychology title itself.
Whichever authority assesses you, the paperwork is the part applicants underestimate. The Document Vault keeps a single register of every document, what it was needed for, and what is still missing.
