TRA assesses Jockey under the same generic Migration Skills Assessment process as the rest of this family, with no occupation-specific evidence requirement found beyond the standard qualification-and-employment documentation. Jockey sits on ROL only, the narrowest list placement in this family, and its visa reach — 407, 491, 494 — has no independent or employer-sponsored 186/482 route in it at all, unlike three of its own unit-group's VETASSESS-assessed siblings. Where these applications come unstuck

Jockey is the only TRA-assessed code among five in its unit group; Footballer, Golfer, Lifeguard and Sportspersons nec are all VETASSESS, and three of the four reach visas Jockey cannot — comparing notes with another "sportsperson" applicant about sponsorship options is comparing against a visa reach a jockey does not have. The sharper trap sits inside racing itself: a jockey's actual licence to ride, granted by a state or territory racing authority, requires having already completed an apprenticeship or already held a jockey's licence elsewhere. A TRA skills assessment says nothing about whether that apprenticeship gate has been cleared, and conflating the two leaves a real step undone.

An honest read on this pathway

Jockey's visa reach is the narrowest in this family — ROL only, 407, 491 and 494, with no independent or employer-sponsored route at all. The TRA skills assessment supports that reach but, as with Horse Trainer, does nothing to grant the actual right to ride: that licence comes from a state or territory racing authority, is gated on having completed an apprenticeship (documented here in detail for NSW, including a tapering weight allowance tied to accumulated wins), and does not transfer automatically between states. A working jockey's genuinely open path runs through both TRA and, separately and afterward, a state racing authority.
