Which lists is Physicist on?

MLTSSL — Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List. The widest list — occupations on the MLTSSL can access the points-tested permanent skilled visas including the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which needs no state nomination or employer.

CSOL — Core Skills Occupation List. The employer-sponsorship list — occupations on the CSOL can be nominated for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme 186.

Its own page lists Astronomer as an occupation considered suitable under this code, and states directly, regarding Medical Physicist: "VETASSESS is not the authorised assessing body for this specialisation."

Where these applications come unstuck

That Medical Physicist statement is a different shape of trap from most of this family's confusable-code pairs — it is not "nominate the sibling code instead," it is VETASSESS declining the specialism outright, with no alternative body named on its own page. This dossier could not identify which authority, if any, assesses Medical Physicist for migration purposes; anyone in that specific specialism needs to establish the correct assessing body independently before assuming a general Physicist nomination is the workaround, since VETASSESS's own page does not say that it is.
